Professor Nigel Spooner and his team at Teraglo (formerly Loughan Technology Group) granted $675,816.

Professor Nigel Spooner and his team have obtained $675,816 from the Australian Research Council Linkage Project to create a portable device for instant asbestos detection. This innovation aims to minimise the necessity for extensive lab testing by allowing immediate identification in homes, workplaces, recycling centres, and other locations.


By leveraging advanced optical spectrometry, fluorescence, and machine learning technologies from the Prescott Environmental Luminescence Laboratory (PELL), the device is expected to reduce asbestos exposure, enhancing public health while offering considerable economic advantages.
